Accelerated high-cycle phase field fatigue predictions

چکیده
Phase field fracture models have seen widespread application in the last decade. Among these applications, its use to model evolution of fatigue cracks has attracted particular interest, as damage behaviour can be predicted for arbitrary loading histories, dimensions and complexity cracking phenomena at play. However, while cycle-by-cycle calculations are remarkably flexible, they also computationally expensive, hindering applicability phase technologically-relevant problems. In this work, a computational framework accelerating is presented. Two novel acceleration strategies proposed, which used tandem together with other existing schemes from literature. The performance proposed methods documented through series 2D 3D boundary value problems, highlighting robustness efficiency even complex observed reduction computation time using both shown reach speed-up factor 32, scaling trend enabling greater reductions problems more load cycles.

Effect of Low Cycle Fatigue Predamage on Very High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of TC21 Titanium Alloy
The effect of low cycle fatigue (LCF) predamage on the subsequent very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior is investigated in TC21 titanium alloy. LCF predamage is applied under 1.8% strain amplitude up to various fractions of the expected life and subsequent VHCF properties are determined using ultrasonic fatigue tests. Results show that 5% of predamage insignificantly affects the VHCF limit du...
متن کاملMultiaxial high-cycle fatigue criterion and life prediction for metals
A new high-cycle fatigue criterion based on the critical plane approach is proposed in this paper. Unlike most of the other multiaxial fatigue criteria based on the critical plane approach, the critical plane is directly correlated with the fatigue fracture plane. The proposed criterion has a wide range of applicability from very ductile metals to extremely brittle metals. Mean stress effect is...
متن کاملHigh cycle fatigue behaviour of functional spinal units.
Vibrations have been shown to be an important risk factor for spinal pathologies. The underlying mechanisms are poorly understood and in vivo data scarce and difficult to obtain. Consequently numerical models are used to estimate spinal loading; requiring fatigue strength information, which was obtained in this study for spinal specimens from young and old male donors of working age in vitro. B...
متن کاملHigh-Cycle Fatigue of Single-Crystal Silicon Thin Films
When subjected to alternating stresses, most materials degrade, e.g., suffer premature failure, due to a phenomenon known as fatigue. It is generally accepted that in brittle materials, such as ceramics, fatigue can only take place in toughened solids, i.e., premature fatigue failure would not be expected in materials such as single crystal silicon. The results of this study, however, appear to...
متن کاملFatigue life predictions in polymer particle composites
This paper presents a study on fatigue life predictions in three polymer particle composites with different volume fractions of filler and different particle sizes. Central hole notched specimens were analysed using a fracture mechanics approach. A solution for the stress intensity factor of corner cracks at a hole was obtained using the finite element method and considering quarter-circular an...
